At Cornmill Shopping Centre, we believe that a great shopping experience should be accessible to everyone. We understand that for some members of our community, the bright lights, background music, and bustle of a busy shopping centre can be overwhelming.
That’s why we are proud to announce the relaunch of our Quiet Hour, taking place every Sunday from 10:30am to 11:30am, starting 7th June 2026.
Our Partnership with Kane’s World
This initiative is delivered in proud partnership with Kane’s World, a Darlington-based charity dedicated to raising awareness and providing vital support for individuals with sensory and additional needs. By working closely with their team, we’ve tailored our Quiet Hour to ensure we are creating a truly inclusive environment.
Together, our mission is to make Cornmill a welcoming, comfortable space where every visitor feels supported.
What to Expect During Quiet Hour
During this dedicated hour every Sunday, we work with our retailers to transform the atmosphere of the centre:
Sound Reduction: Music in the malls and participating stores will be turned off to reduce background noise.
Tannoy Silence: Public announcements will be kept to an absolute minimum, used only in emergencies.
A Calmer Pace: We encourage a more relaxed environment, allowing you to browse at your own speed without the usual sensory distractions.

The relaunch of Quiet Hour is just the beginning of our journey toward better accessibility. Through our ongoing relationship with Kane’s World, we are continuously looking for ways to improve our facilities and train our staff to better support all of our shoppers.
